Unconscious Shadow
Encountering the Shadow
Confronting the Shadow
The Long Reach of the Shadow
`Integrating the Shadow
"One doesn't get enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious." ~ C. G. Jung This series arose spontaneously from my still-life experiments with taking pictures with rocks and flowers in natural light. One morning, as I was making a still-life arrangement in my studio, the sun shone through the window and cast an intriguing shadow of a flower on the rock. An ordinary image was suddenly imbued with new meaning and metaphor. As a psychologist, I am familiar with the concept of the shadow and the process of integrating our "dark side" into our whole personality. Over several weeks, I began working outside my studio with direct sunlight and experimenting with the relationship between the rocks, the flower, and its shadow. This series explores metaphorically the process of integrating the shadow, or "our dark side," into the personality.
